A note from Evie

If you have ever spent time drooling over those amazing textured yarns on Instagram or wondered how weavers get those bulky yarns for beautiful wall hangings, then you will love core spinning because by the end of this course, you will be creating your own amazing core spun yarns too!

Core spun yarns can look very dramatic and complex, but once you've mastered the fundamentals of core spinning, you will have endless colors, textures, and fibers to explore.

While core spinning can be done with "standard" orifice sizes, having larger openings for your textured yarn to pass through is useful and allows a greater diameter of yarn to be spun. In this workshop I will demonstrate core spinning mostly on an Ashford treadle powered spinning wheel with a bulky flyer set up, but you can also core spin using an e-wheel or a spindle.

Textured yarns are best spun with a relaxed and fun attitude toward the process. The imperfections, bumps, slubs, and unexpected lumps are what make textured core spun yarns uniquely beautiful. Have fun with the process and love the yarn you spin for all the character you spin into it.

Happy spinning!
